3rd Summer School on the "Economics of Migration"

3rd Summer School on the "Economics of Migration" on September 9-12, 2024, in Mexico City.

 

The Global Migration Center is calling for applications to its 3rd Summer School on the Economics of Migration, hosted in Casa de California, Mexico City, from September 9-12th, 2024. Applications can be submitted here. Read on for details regarding eligibility, seminar topics, and and structure. 

Eligibility: For the first time PhD Students in Economics and related quantitative social sciences enrolled in any North-American and Latin-American institution, currently in their 2nd-6th year, and Post-Docs interested in the economics of migration, who are starting to work on a research plan/idea are eligible to apply. Applications of master students considering pursuing a PhD in Economics will also be considered. 

Structure: The Summer School will last four days. In the morning each faculty member will lecture on the frontier of research in their specific topic. In the afternoon students will present their own research ideas/draft and will receive feedback from faculty. The school will also host guest speakers in an evening event and a Policy Panel in its last day. The atmosphere of the school will stimulate conversation and feedback in small groups, and meals together between students and faculty will foster the development of mentoring relationships and networks among peers. Santiago Pérez (UC Davis): Selection and economic success of migrants and 2nd
generation

Attendees: There will be up to 30 students admitted, and the institution of origin can be any PHD program in the Americas. The stay at Krystal Grand Insurgentes Hotel, meals and classes will be fully covered for admitted students, thanks to the generous support of University of California Alianza MX. Students will need to arrange their own transportation to Mexico City.


Admission: Competitive based on CV, institutions, and research proposal. Applicants should submit their application at this link, uploading their CV and one draft of a research paper or a one-page proposal of their research, related to the theme of the summer school. They may also include a letter of recommendation of one advisor (optional). The letter of recommendation should be sent to gperi@ucdavis.edu.
